A Brief History
The Upper Broken River Valley is located between the Strathbogie and Mt Samaria range close to Lake Nillahcootie (a 40,000 ML reservoir) The valley produces southerly winds that reduce the incidence of frost and the risk of damage during the early stages of growth. Locally produced wines are some of the best in the North East.
Swanpool is located in the heart of the Upper Broken River Valley and provides a very diverse southern gateway to Benalla Rural City. Being in the foothills of the Victorian High Country, the area abounds with natural beauty. To the south, the imposing Mount Samaria reflects in the waters of Lake Nillahcootie. To the west are the Strathbogie Ranges with numerous walking tracks and bird watchers will be amazed at the variety of bird life that abounds in the district and the surrounding mountain ranges.
The township and the surrounding valleys enjoy fertile soils, temperate climate and reliable rainfall, all combining to provide an ideal environment for production of an extensive range of fresh farm produce. Vegetables, stone fruit, apples, pears, citrus fruit, olives and wine grapes, are just some of the horticulture that is produced prolifically in the area.

The terroir expressed in their wines comes from a winning set of factors. It combines healthy ecosystems, ancient granitic soils, vibrant wild yeasts, temperate climate and sustainable practices.
